ReplyDeleteDuh, marriage isn't defined in the Constitution. Originally it was defined in the Bible when God married Adam and Eve. The US Constitution avoids mentioning the Bible, and John Adams et al. like to remark that it could only work if the people were all moral and religious. But too bad, the U.S. is not explicitly based on the Bible, the Constitution was a compromise document, so it was just a matter of time before a decision like this came along, because groups that sin are now in. Groups have the right to equal protection, so form one and go for it. Later the SCOTUS will likely affirm the right to polygamy, incest, man-boy love, naked public orgies, the entire Sodom and Gomorrah package, and it can't be stopped as long as the Constitution lives. It would actually take a revolution by Bible-thumpers, like Oliver Cromwell's Puritan Revolution in England, which I find hard to imagine, and even that wouldn't last long anymore than his did.
More likely is a bloody takeover by Muslims, who will abolish the Constitution in place of the Quran and its Sharia, ending everything the US worked for in a New Dark Ages, maybe the Mormons alone would like it. But long before that Muslims will enact blasphemy laws making it a capital crime even to criticize Islam as they subvert the Constitution 24/7, and it might take a bloody civil war to even have a chance to stop them, since Islam is a global conspiracy and can call in reinforcements, and the US would be so weakened it would be a third rate country of losers like Kevin Costner in The Postman easily conquerable by China et al., who are waiting in the wings and would love some new Lebensraum.
America ruled the world after WWII, but hasn't got imperialist genes, it just wants everybody to like it and be like it, which didn't work, alienating most of the world and turning them against us, building a critical mass surrounding us and getting ready to close the circle. So, to be an American now is to be between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, isn't it? Kind of reminds me of Archimedes trying to defend the city of Syracuse against the Romans until they swamped it and took it in a lake of blood in -212. What interesting times to live in :)
